passing on pain

Like so many others I know, it seems I am one of the first in my family to shed light on past traumas, and those of the women before me.
With this drawing I want to honour our female lineages and all of the women who cannot speak out and express themselves freely.
And I thank them for without them I would not be painting here today.

“Tears shed in the shadow of men
Lock the heart in a prison.
They then stain the venter
Through which they are passed on,
Robbing us of our freedom
And our public voices.”
