bodies and faces

· Nudes

When I see a naked body in front of me, particularly when I myself am clothed, I capture our fragility and also our strength. I see beauty and also the miracle of so much energy coming together to create millions of living cells who, all together, form a particular body. This body emits feeling comfortable or tense, ashamed or proud, relaxed or frustrated. These vibrations, the feelings, are then caught and exchanged with other bodies- don't you find it fascinating? How do you feel in front of a naked body? You might not have seen, or really looked at one in a while, or you might not want to. You might feel all the stigma attached to seeing someone naked, even though it is the most natural of things. Each body has its own beauty and strength; just look for it. Above all in your own! Always without judgment, from a place of wonder and innocence.

Thank you Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc for creating a space where we can practice and enjoy life drawing like so many artists before us! I love how we only get 3-8 minutes to capture a whole human landscape. It is a creative time where I allow myself to make (a lot of) “mistakes”, try out different ways to draw, am really present (no time for the mind to wander) and am always surprised about the outcomes. I don't use drawings as preparation work but see them as a finished piece.

· Portraits

Some drawings of just a few of the women I am grateful for; they inspire me, they give me hope, they make me laugh, the stir up admiration, they make me think, act and dream. I am blessed with incredible female friendships, some over 36-years-old, others fairly recent, some over distance, some right here, skin to skin. They nurture me, they hold me, they challenge me, they make me dance and cook, and amplify my own female energy. I am also grateful for our linage; my mum and grandma, and for walking this earth with three sisters. I count myself lucky to be a woman and wish for all women everywhere to feel loved, proud, respected and protected.
