“In Zen art, an ensō (円相, “circular form”) is a circle hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express the Zen mind, which is associated with enlightenment, emptiness, freedom, and the state of no-mind.” (via Wikipedia) After this enso crystallised on the paper (1 x 1,5 m) as a new piece for my upcoming show next month I was flooded with the feeling of hope and faith again, just like when I visited the Matrimandir in Auroville, India, a few months back (photo of the golden globe about 10 rows down); a knowing that anything is possible if we set our intention from the heart and let ourselves be guided. For this it is absolutely necessary to be in a state of no-mind, however “fleeting” this moment might seem (because time does not really exist or matter here). In my experience, painting and massaging are the same thing. I choose to use both as tools for communication, (self-)awareness and healing. I profoundly believe in the healing power of touch as well as art and its ability to facilitate deep connections. I see how art and massage can transcend verbal language and thus reach the core of a person’s being, allowing for profound understanding, emotional release and expansion of the mind and heart. My aim is to evoke powerful emotions and engage with others on a deep level. Both painting and giving therapeutic massages allow me to be in close contact with the mysteries of existence: the human connection through our bodies, inner struggles, the beauty of vulnerability and transcendence. I firmly believe that disciplines such as art and massages have the power to transcend barriers and create deeper connections with ourselves, others and the divine. This natural phenomenon of the “Lorblummen” (thousands of wild daffodils) that bloom every year for a few weeks in a forest in the north of Luxembourg around Easter time just makes me wonder about creation, nature, beauty and our existence here. Daffodils symbolise rebirth and hope as well as resilience. These delicate flowers managed to survive throughout winter and are ready to bloom as soon as the days start getting longer while most trees and plants are still wintering.
